Program Overview

Microsoft Computer Systems Technology offered by Allegheny Valley Institute of Technology is a rigorous 674-hour hands-on training program that teaches students the fundamentals of becoming a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). The Program is vendor specific and certifies the competency of service and support technicians on Microsoft Operating Systems.

As a Microsoft Certified Partner, Allegheny Valley Institute of Technology has courseware material that follows Microsoft’s latest examination objectives to help the student gain the knowledge they need. At the Allegheny Valley Institute of Technology, students receive quality training from certified professionals in state-of-the art classrooms.  In addition, since the Allegheny Valley Institute of Technology is an Authorized Prometric Testing Center™ (APTC), students can take their examinations at this facility.  The Allegheny Valley Institute of Technology uses Microsoft Press’s Courseware Kits that provide the student with Exam Assessment and Preparation software giving students the study tools they need to pass the test.

Entrance Criteria

A high school diploma or general equivalency diploma is required for admission to this Program.  Applicants must also successfully pass the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) with a minimum score of 280 in both the verbal and quantitative categories at the General Education Development (GED) Level 2 and successfully pass the Computing Technology Industry Association (Comp TIA) A+ “Core Hardware” examination, in order to be admitted into this program.

Certification

The certifications consist of two Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) examinations (Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 Server). These examinations are given at the school. Allegheny Valley Institute of Technology has vouchers for these tests available at no cost to the student.  All students are responsible for certification examination costs incurred beyond the two tests included with the program.
